Cingular sales team inadvertently confirms 11 June date
US carrier Cingular has inadvertently confirmed the exact date for Apple’s iPhone launch.
The date coincides with Apple’s Worldwide Developers Conference, which begins in San Francisco on 11 June and runs until 15 June.
The launch date was confirmed by a Cingular sales representative contacted by a journalist at News.com.

Spamvertised malware spreading fast
Hackers are trying to trick prospective marks into loading malware that poses as a “beta” version of Internet Explorer 7.
Widely circulated emails, which pose as messages from admin@microsoft.com and feature subject lines such as “Internet Explorer 7 Downloads”, display an image which invites gullible users to download beta 2 of Internet Explorer 7. Users who click on the authentic-looking image download a file called ie7.0.exe infected by the Grum-A worm.

Danger mouse…
A new security vulnerability puts Windows users at risk of serious cyber attacks, Microsoft has warned.
The vulnerability affects all recent Windows versions, including Vista, which Microsoft has promoted heavily for its security. The operating system software is flawed in the way it handles animated cursors, Microsoft said in a security advisory.
An attacker could exploit the vulnerability through a web page or email message with rigged computer code, it said.

Microsoft Corp. has unveiled a web browser for cellphones and other devices with limited screen space that zooms into a page to make it easier to read and navigate.
The prototype browser, dubbed Deepfish, displays an image of the page as a point of reference. Users can highlight a section of the page, which they can then zoom in and out of to quickly view it in detail, rather than scrolling through multiple screens to see the parts that interest them.

Google’s commitment to “green” means that the company sources carpet and sofas made without PVC, paints without volatile organic compounds, and cafeteria food from local growers. It’s not surprising, then, that they would roll out the largest commercial solar deployment in the US?¢‚Ǩ‚Äùa 1.6MW installation that covers most of the buildings at Google’s campus and extends even to shaded parking spaces. At the ETech conference in San Diego this week, Google’s Anthony Ravitz explained how Google did it, and why.

Microsoft on Wednesday released a minor update to its Zune software aimed at fixing several issues, including one that was causing some users to hear skipping when playing back purchased songs.
“We were aware a limited number of users were experiencing that issue, and we were able to address it,” said Zune spokeswoman Katy Asher.
The software maker had originally hoped to have the update by midmonth, but the patch took slightly longer than it had hoped to develop and test.

Advert tracking technology worth $2bn
Microsoft is reported to be in talks to acquire internet advertising company DoubleClick at a cost of $2bn.
A buyout would provide Microsoft with access to DoubleClick’s Dart technology, which monitors how internet adverts perform, and boost its ability to fight Google for online advertising market share.

With Sony’s position as the new-gen storage king being threatened by the Xbox 360 Elite, it seems only natural that Sony would at least try and stuff a few more GB into its console. A recent FCC filing, which was required due to a change in Bluetooth module, has spilled the beans on an 80GB version of the PS3.
