Darik’s Boot and Nuke (”DBAN”) is a self-contained boot floppy that securely wipes the hard disks of most computers. DBAN will automatically and completely delete the contents of any hard disk that it can detect, which makes it an appropriate utility for bulk or emergency data destruction.
DBAN is a means of ensuring due diligence in computer recycling, a way of preventing identity theft if you want to sell a computer, and a good way to totally clean a Microsoft Windows installation of viruses and spyware. Microsoft’s ‘none more black’ Xbox 360 Elite has gone on sale in the US, allowing Xbox buffs to trade up to a 120GB hard drive and HDMI connectivity for just $480 - if they can find one, that is.
Although the machine was to have been made available yesterday, quite a few of the big names in online retail didn’t have units available to buy when we checked today.

3D tool aims to improve enterprise collaboration
Sun Microsystems has developed a prototype 3D environment that essentially mimics Second Life, but turns it into an enterprise collaboration tool.
Sun’s MPK20 virtual world allows for collaboration between employees in different locations.
Each employee is represented by an avatar that walks around in a virtual environment, communicating using internet telephony.

Yahoo announced today that it will acquire the 80% of advertising network RightMedia that it doesn?迁傃 already own for $680 million in cash and Yahoo stock.
Yahoo previously bought 20% of the company in a $45 million Series B round of funding announced in October 2006. The company has raised over $50 million to date.

PuTTY is a free implementation of Telnet and SSH for Win32 and Unix platforms, along with an xterm terminal emulator. It is written and maintained primarily by Simon Tatham.
LEGAL WARNING: Use of PuTTY, PSCP, PSFTP and Plink is illegal in countries where encryption is outlawed. I believe it is legal to use PuTTY, PSCP, PSFTP and Plink in England and many other countries, but I am not a lawyer and so if in doubt you should seek legal advice before downloading it. You may find this site useful (it’s a survey of cryptography laws in many countries) but I can’t vouch for its correctness.
Use of the Telnet-only binary (PuTTYtel) is unrestricted by any cryptography laws.

Microsoft’s strategy in the burgeoning world of ad-supported online software calls for aggressive new business terms to undercut rivals and a familiar game plan of cosying up to developers.
At the company’s Mix07 conference in Las Vegas today, chief software architect Ray Ozzie and other Microsoft executives are scheduled to lay out the elements of Microsoft’s “software plus services” push, its approach to making money from hosted web services while keeping customers tied to its desktop software.

Macbook users have been issued with a software update to fix ‘visibly deformed’ battery packs, among other problems
Apple has admitted that some batteries in its Macbook and Macbook Pro line of laptops have ‘performance issues’ and has issued a software update to fix the problem.
Among the symptoms of batteries that are affected are swelling, the battery not being recognised or not charging, and a shorter than expected battery life.

Exploit code on the loose
Exploit code that could take advantage of a “highly critical” security flaw in the most recent versions of Adobe Photoshop has been published, a security researcher reported.
The security flaw affects Adobe Photoshop Creative Suite 3, as well as CS2, according to a security advisory issued by Secunia on Wednesday.
The vulnerability concerns the way Adobe Photoshop handles the processing of malicious bitmap files, such as .bmp, .dib and .rle. A malicious attacker could exploit the flaw to launch a buffer overflow attack. That buffer overflow would then allow the intruder to take over a user’s system.

In its shift from being a dial-up Internet service provider to a free service, AOL.com is testing a revamp to its portal home page that has a very familiar look.
The revised AOL.com should go live this summer. For now, the company is restricting access to the home page to a few occasional visitors to the site so as to better manage the user response.
The new AOL looks remarkably like Yahoo’s new Web 2.0-inspired home page, which it launched last year. The layout and structure of the two sites is almost identical.

VobBlanker is a tool able to blank, replace, cut and strip titles, more specifically, program chains or individual cells. From release 1.5 VobBlanker is also able to work (blank, preview, delete..) in the menu domain. It also has special features like reduce to still with or without audio complete PGCs or single Cells, or splitting cells capability
How VobBlanker works
- VobBlanker needs a FILE mode, unencrypted backup of the DVD to be processed. This backup can be done using a ripper in FILE mode or mounting in a virtual drive an unencrypted DVD image.
- VobBlanker uses the info stored in the IFOs to access the Cells inside the VOBs.
- When the VIDEO_TS.IFO file is selected, VobBlanker reads automatically all the IFOs in the same folder and stores in memory all the required info.
- Now, the user is allowed to configure how the DVD is going to be processed, which PGCs are going to be blanked, etc. The user has to select the output folder where the processed DVD will be stored.
- Project settings can be saved/loaded from Menu.
- VobBlanker will NOT modify any file of the input folder. It opens these files for reading.
