Unified Blu-ray/HD DVD Format Slips

Saturday, June 30th, 2007

While I’m not convinced a dual format Blu-ray/HD DVD disc is really the way forward (a standard will win!) Warner seems determined to push one through, but the arrival date has just slipped…

Dubbed ‘Total HD’ or ‘THD’ (a common typo on my computer), the discs had been scheduled to arrive in the second half of this year but with Q2 just a few days away the Hollywood giant has been forced to admit it won’t make this timeframe. Instead Warner is now quoting an ‘early 2008′ release date and maintains there is a role for a format which may only service to further confuse an already befuddled public.

Mobile Media Converter 1.3

Friday, June 29th, 2007

The Mobile Media Converter uses ffmpeg to convert MP3 / WAVE / WMA audio files to AMR files (Adaptive Multi-Rate Codec, *.amr) and vice-versa (AMR to MP3). Also, it can convert your WMV (except WMV ver.9) / MPEG video files to 3GPP (3rd Generation Partnership Project, *.3gp) and vice-versa (MPEG to 3GP).
The program has a very easy-to-use and simple GUI (Graphical User Interface) that helps even the most amateur user. Most of the times, the only data that you must enter is the input file(s) or just drag ‘n’ drop the input file! The 3GP and AMR formats are used by mobile phones for MMS, for video and sound recordings, etc.

The iPhone is here (or soon to be, later today).

There’s a whole shipment of the miraculous devices in their pristine packaging just waiting to be plucked from the shelves at your local Apple or AT&T stores. They go on sale tonight at 6pm and you can get yours for $499 for 4 gigabytes of flash memory or $599 if you’re feeling indulgent for 8 gigabytes.

Some have been lining up already, such as near the Apple Store in midtown Manhattan.
