Cybercriminals have turned to video-sharing website YouTube in their attempt to infect PCs with a Trojan horse.
Hoax emails claim to point to a YouTube video but actually direct people to a webpage containing a malicious script and a new variation of the Storm worm.
The worm is designed to compromise a PC and turn it into a zombie to spam out junk email or launch distributed denial of service attacks against other computer users.

Incremental backup tool for directories. Free software written in Java.
ZipSnap creates archives that are collections of point-in-time snapshots. An archive is just a directory of catalogs (plain text files compressed as ZIP files) and compressed volumes (ZIP files). When a snapshot is added to an archive, a new compressed volume is created, containing only new or modified files and directories. A catalog is used to store information on the snapshots and contents of the archive. Files are automatically numbered with a timestamp. Runs on any OS with the Java Runtime Environment (JRE 6+).
ZipSnap is free software written in Java and released under the GNU GPL license (version 2).

Security specialists are warning that Sony’s MicroVault USB, which is a biometric USB storage device, cloaks driver software in a Windows directory that could be used by malware to avoid detection from security applications.
The manner of installing and hiding software on users’ PCs is reminiscent of Sony BMG’s attempt two years ago to protect music copyright by installing rootkit software.
The fingerprint recognition software packaged with Sony’s Microvault USB installs itself as hidden files on the users system under the “c:\windows\” directory.
F-Secure security expert, Mika Tolvanen, reported that it is possible to enter the hidden directory using a Command Prompt and from there create and run new hidden files.

A September 5 announcement of new iPods is the current tip from the Apple rumour mill.
The chatter is not completely consistent, but it seems that replacements for the current nano and ‘full size’ iPods may be on their way.
A key feature of the new models is that they are tipped to run a cut-down version of the OS X variant that drives the iPhone. The idea of a touch-screen simulation of a click wheel has been circulating for months, but it seems likely that at least one iPod will retain the traditional wheel. That doesn’t rule out the possibility of a full-screen iPod with a virtual click wheel.

This weekend’s Windows Genuine Advantage outage was a powerful reminder of the asymmetrical trade-off inherent in Microsoft’s anti-piracy efforts. Microsoft’s aggressive focus on stopping piracy isn’t matched by the care and precision such a task needs to prevent it from punishing legitimate users. Once again, we’re scratching our heads looking for the “advantage” in Windows Genuine Advantage.
We all know that Microsoft’s products are widely pirated, and the company has every right to try and stop it. Many of us might even cheer Microsoft on, if its anti-piracy efforts both worked and were completely unobtrusive to legitimate users.
