Stockholm (Sweden) - The four men in charge of running Pirate Bay, a popular file-sharing site, have been charged with conspiracy to break copyright law in their home country of Sweden.
Pirate Bay acts similar to Kazaa in that it is a source for users to find, share and download content, much of which is copyrighted. The site creates Torrent files, which must be accessed through third-party software programs before it can be viewed.

Exact Audio Copy is a so called audio grabber for audio CDs using standard CD and DVD-ROM drives. The main differences between EAC and most other audio grabbers are :
- It is free (for non-commercial purposes)
- It works with a technology, which reads audio CDs almost perfectly. If there are any errors that can’t be corrected, it will tell you on which time position the (possible) distortion occurred, so you could easily control it with e.g. the media player
With other audio grabbers you usually need to listen to every grabbed wave because they only do jitter correction. Scratched CDs read on CD-ROM drives often produce distortions. But listening to every extracted audio track is a waste of time. Exact Audio Copy conquer these problems by making use of several technologies like multi-reading with verify and AccurateRip.

The infrastructure and tools required to make Linux a green operating system are now in place, according to Linus Torvalds, who was in Melbourne this week attending Australia’s largest Linux conference.
In an interview at the Linux.conf.au conference today, Torvalds admitted that Linux was lagging behind on power management and energy diagnosis tools.
“It is an area we were pretty weak a few years ago and just building up the infrastructure took a long time but now we are at a point where we have most of it done.
“That doesn’t mean we are done. Now we have an infrastructure in place … we have the tools to measure power and notice when the power is higher and why that is — which is pretty important. Before, it used to be a black box,” said Torvalds.

GrapeBackup is a backup program with following features:
- extremely fast
- easy to use
- supports incremental backups (multiple versions of a directory are saved in a repository and may be retrieved independently). Create your backups daily or even twice a day. Only changed files will be stored. This is also very useful if you want to be able to access different stages of your work.

- uses ZIP format for storing files or single file repository (If you want to burn the created file on CDs? or similar and it is bigger than 650MB you can use 7-zip File Manager to split the file in smaller pieces)
- runs on multiple platforms. It was tested on Windows XP and Kubuntu (Linux) but should also run on any platform that supports Java.
- English and German translations
- basic version is freeware
- command line interface lets you automate your backups.
You must have Java 1.5 or greater already installed before installing GrapeBackup

Microsoft IPsec Diagnostic Tool assists Network administrators with troubleshooting network related failures, focusing primarily on IPsec. It is applicable on Windows XP, Windows Server 2003, Windows Vista and Windows Server 2008.
Microsoft IPsec Diagnostic Tool checks for common network problems on the host machine and if found, suggests repair commands. Further, it collects IPsec policy information on the system and parses the IPsec logs to deduce why a failure might have happened. Beyond IPsec, it offers trace collection for VPN, NAP client, Windows Firewall, Group policy updates, Wireless and System events. The Diagnostic Report generated by the tool is conclusive and is derived from the system logs collected by the tool during its analysis phase. These logs are self sufficient to diagnose any network related issues. For further assistance, the logs would require to be shared with Network Administrators or Microsoft support.

In an unexpected move, a judge has extended the federal government’s oversight Microsoft’s business practices until November 12, 2009.
As part of a 2002 consent decree with the federal government, Microsoft agreed to federal oversight of its business practices to ensure it didn’t use its monopoly power in the computer operating systems market to unfairly inhibit competition and control prices. Portions of that consent decree were set to expire in November 2007, but Judge Colleen Kollar-Kotelly extended the date in order to hear arguments presented by two groups of states arguing the consent decree should be extended five more years. Industry watchers generally felt that Kollar-Kotelly would let the decree expire on schedule—albeit with admonishments that the government would continue to keep a close eye on the Redmond software giant—in part because the Bush administration’s Justice Department also backed the idea of letting the consent decree expire.
