Apple knows how to feed the rumor machine. The Cupertino-Calif.-based Apple e-mailed reporters an invitation to a September 9 event in San Francisco entitled “Let’s Rock,” which had a purple silhouette of a man jumping in the air listening to an iPod with the teaser, “playing soon.”

For Apple followers, there is nothing more juicy than following a trail to find out what Steve Jobs is up to.

The best guess is that Apple will unveil new iPod music players, which some believe are due for a price reduction, particularly in light in Apple’s lower-priced iPhone.
