Del.icio.us feels the strain as new users flock

Social bookmarking website Del.icio.us has felt the strain of millions of new visitors after news that it was bought out by Yahoo.

The problem is now under control, but millions of extra visitors to the site caused it to buckle under the strain.

Del.icio.us helps users to compile and share links to their favourite internet sites.

Site founder Joshua Schachter announced news of the Yahoo purchase on the Del.icio.us blog, saying: ?˘‚Ǩ?ěWe’re proud to announce that del.icio.us has joined the Yahoo! family. Together we’ll continue to improve how people discover, remember and share on the internet, with a big emphasis on the power of community. We’re also excited to be joining our fraternal twin Flickr!?˘‚Ǩ¬ů
