Last month, we first reported about the upcoming arrival of Firefox 3 and since that time the new browser has gone from having “no set release date” to launching, well, today.

On the Download Day website, Mozilla has hit the web with a pretty clever marketing ploy - an attempt to set a Guinness World Record for the most software downloads in a 24-hour period. When we heard about its cunning ploy, we applauded the brilliance of the venture: even if their target of 1.6 million downloads isn’t met, they’ll be setting a record, not trying to break one - so it’s a win in any case. Can you smell that free publicity?
