ITunes Music Store: Over Five Billion Songs Served

Everyone knows Apple’s iTunes store sells a lot of music, but its latest numbers are positively stratospheric.

The reigning champion of digital music has sold over five billion songs since its 2003 debut, while the iTunes music catalog has ballooned to over eight million tracks. Customers can also choose between over twenty thousand television episodes or over two thousand films, 350 or so of which are available in high definition.

The iTunes store remains the number one music retailer of any kind in the US, and has expanded into video, selling and renting an average of over 50,000 movies each day. Apple claims this makes it the world’s most popular online movie store (one assumes they didn’t include the adult film industry in their tally).
