University sues Google in dispute over search patent

Google has been sued by Boston’s Northeastern University over a patented system for searching databases with networked computers and indexing results.

Northeastern “has suffered damages as a result of Google’s infringement and will continue to suffer damages” unless it’s stopped by court order, the university said in a complaint filed Nov. 6 in federal court in Marshall, Texas. Northeastern, one of the largest private universities in the country also asked for unspecified cash compensation for past infringement.
