About two weeks ago, T-Mobile subscribers with Sidekick woke to a shock: all of their precious data, stored on Sidekick makers Danger’s servers, had gone missing. T-Mobile invoked the Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy clause: don’t panic, we’re working on getting your data back. In the meantime, T-Mobile Sidekick users have had to do without email, IM, even their contacts. Only calls and texts were available.

They’ve had fourteen days to fix the problem. So where does the situation now lie? T-Mobile has issued a statement, and it’s bad: sorry, Sidekick users, your data’s gone for good.

“Regrettably, based on Microsoft/Danger’s latest recovery assessment of their systems, we must now inform you that personal information stored on your device – such as contacts, calendar entries, to-do lists or photos – that is no longer on your Sidekick almost certainly has been lost as a result of a server failure at Microsoft/Danger,” said a T-Mobile spokesman.
