Should Google Buy Facebook?
Should Google (GOOG) buy privately held social networking Web site Facebook? ItÃ¢â‚¬â„¢s been a subject of endless speculation, and a piece yesterday on TechCrunch opines that a marriage of the search-engine giant with Facebook would allow users to search the news feed of their Facebook pages, where friends and loved ones report all the various things theyÃ¢â‚¬â„¢re doing, thus making possible the ability to search oneÃ¢â‚¬â„¢s own experience. The author gives examples of how one could see friends who had worked at a company about which one was researching, or see which friends have taken trips to Italy when researching that country. Facebook has a program to add results from friendsÃ¢â‚¬â„¢ pages to Google searches, called Facebook Connect, but, as the author notes, it doesnÃ¢â‚¬â„¢t matter much because Facebook pages are not well indexed, leading to poor search results.
