Should Google Buy Facebook?

Should Google (GOOG) buy privately held social networking Web site Facebook? It’s been a subject of endless speculation, and a piece yesterday on TechCrunch opines that a marriage of the search-engine giant with Facebook would allow users to search the news feed of their Facebook pages, where friends and loved ones report all the various things they’re doing, thus making possible the ability to search one’s own experience. The author gives examples of how one could see friends who had worked at a company about which one was researching, or see which friends have taken trips to Italy when researching that country. Facebook has a program to add results from friends’ pages to Google searches, called Facebook Connect, but, as the author notes, it doesn’t matter much because Facebook pages are not well indexed, leading to poor search results.
