Dell decides not to launch new MP3 player

Last week we reported how Dell was responding to the current economic upset with a range of measures including asking its staff to take unpaid holiday. Now it has announced one of its more ambitious new projects has been put on hold for the foreseeable future.

Back in July the Wall Street Journal reported that Dell was thought to be developing a new MP3 player to launch in time for Christmas with a US$100 price point. At the time it was speculation, but the amount of detail they had suggested it was an active project. Now Dell have decided such a device would not be a suitable release right now and has announced it is not going to pursue it.
