Intel cuts prices, introduces new 65W quad-core models
As expected, Intel has announced it is slashing prices on a range of desktop processors and has introduced several new Core 2 Quad CPUs with a 65W TDP. While cuts were mostly concentrated on quad-core chips, lower end processors received some of the largest reductions, such as the mobile Celeron 570 which has been reduced by a significant 48 percent.
The 95W 2.33GHz, 2.5GHz, 2.66GHz, 2.83GHz and 3GHz Core 2 Quads all drop at least 16 percent (and up to 40 percent) to $163, $183, $213, $266 and $316 respectively. Core 2 Duos include a 2.8GHz version dropped to $113, while server-oriented Xeon X3000 chips drop to as little as $224 for a 2.66GHz quad-core part to $316 for a 3GHz version.
