Firewall provider Kerio’s new owner says it’ll keep providing a free firewall for home users.

Anti-spyware company Sunbelt Software announced the purchase of Kerio today and promised to continue supporting Kerio free firewall users and to “continue Kerio’s tradition of providing a basic free version for home users”.

In October Kerio said it would discontinue its personal firewall software from 31 December to focus on its products for business users. Sunbelt looks set to revive the free software once the acquisition is completed at the end of December.

The Kerio Personal Firewall will be rebranded the Sunbelt Kerio Personal Firewall. Until then the company said that the current Kerio free firewall could still be downloaded from Kerio website.
