Get accompanying info and extract snatches from remote MP3 and AVI files
LoadScout is a smart program designed to help you browse the web and FTP sites. It allows you to get information from any remote media or archive file without downloading it. The basic idea is to download only a small part of the file and extract the required data. The program works under MS Windows 9x/NT/2000/Me/XP and integrates with Internet Explorer to help you get the information and preview files on the fly right from the browser window.
Let’s say you’ve heard a song on the radio and you really liked it. All you know is the name of the band. So you go to the band’s homepage and find out that they have 5 different albums. To download each song, it would take you about 300Mb worth of your bandwidth and probably several hours, depending on the type of connection you have. Instead, you can download and listen a 20 second clip from each song to find the one you want. Cool, isn’t it?
If you have a many megs long archive file on a remote FTP or HTTP server and you need to extract a single file or several files contained inside, you do not need to download the whole archive. LoadScout will show you the content and let you select the files that you need, download and extract exactly the parts that are of interest for you.
In addition LoadScout includes an FTP client and its own download engine, so you can use it to download anything from web and FTP. It supports all types of proxy: FTP, HTTP and SOCKS and will let you save frequently visited sites into the Favorites folder.
LoadScout is freeware!
