The iPhone 5 Review
Apple is being as secretive as ever concerning the release of the newest iPhone 5, but with wireless carriers in Germany now taking pre-orders for the device and an iPhone 5 prototype lost in a bar, many people are beginning to speculate what features the new device will hold that are an improvement over the iPhone 4. The release date is speculated to be sometime in October, but here are some of the features you can hope to look forward to when the device finally gets into consumer hands.
Dual Core Processor & Other Improvements
Android devices have been shipping with dual core processors for a few months now and the iPhone 5 will be the first of the iOS phone devices to ship with the same capacity. Load times will be severely increased and there is a possibility that the iPhone 5 will come with a dedicated graphics chip so that processing power for games and other intensive apps will be even better. There is also speculation that since AT&T is taking massive steps to improve its 4G network that the iPhone 5 will be the first of Apple’s devices to take advantage of the new 4G standard across the United States.
Android Killer
Many sites are touting the iPhone 5 as an Android killer, but with no specific release date and dates ranging anywhere from October to Spring of 2012, there is really no evidence that the new device will bring Android to its knees. It’s likely that even despite the new over the air updates that won’t require iTunes, the iPhone still appeals to a niche of people who want devices that just work without the need to root or jailbreak.
Rumoured Features
Since no announcement has been made by Apple and tech blogs can only speculate on what will be released, some of the best rumours that are surrounding the launch of the device are technology heavy. Some sites are reporting that the iPhone 5 will have face recognition security using the front facing camera, making your phone all but impossible to use unless you’re you. Other sites are reporting the possibility of the iPhone 5 launching with consumers able to take advantage of cheap SIM only deals in order to get their hands on the new device.
New Design & Battery Specs
As if defying all logic, the new iPhone 5 is speculated to be even thinner than the iPhone 4 and will feature a carbon fibre back plate. The screen will feature gorilla glass in order to be shatter and scratch resistant, which is a feature Samsung Android phones have now. Sources speculate that the low-end iPhone 4 model will come with 32GBs of storage space, while the high end model will offer up to 64GBs of space. This is to cement the belief that the iPhone 5 is a premium iOS device, as no other phone on the market currently offers this much internal storage.
Battery life for the device is also widely speculative, but some tech sites are reporting that they expect up to 14 hours of talk time while on 3G, and only 7 hours of talk time while on 4G. If this is the case at launch, the iPhone will be one of the most charger hungry devices Apple has released.
