Popular social network site Twitter has in the past developed innovative location features with only a basic level of API support. According to the official Twitter blog, the site is now adding native support for the location feature with a new API. With the latest launch, developers will be able to add longitude and latitude to any tweet.

This new feature will be turned off by default so Internet surfers interested in activating the new offering must do so manually. Even the exact location data will not be stored for a long time. For those members who choose sharing location on a tweet-by-tweet basis, they will be able to see compelling context with each tweet.
