xren is a tool for renaming and moving files. It supports a very flexible wildcard syntax using the symbols “*” and “?” in arbitrary combination and sequence. Thus the renaming capabilities are far more powerful than what Windows users are used to. xren also can insert zeros into a filename, to provide it with a fixed number of digits. This is useful, if you have a bunch of filenames containing numbers with differing amounts of digits – programs like the Windows Explorer will probably not sort them in the sequence you had intended.
